DRUMS (Joey Jordison):
For this I just input it all on Ultrabeat. So everything that Joey does I just clicked it into Ultrabeat which is basically a drum kit on the computer.
I managed to do everything Joey is doing by searching up drum tabs. I found tabs for this song on ttabs.com. Since my brother can play this song, I asked him mostly "what are the drums doing during this part...".
It was a pretty simple process. It took me about a week or two to input about the first half of the drums. After I finished the first half I wanted to start the other instruments.
PERCUSSION 1 (Shawn Crahan):
I basically copied exactly what the drums are doing and pasted it. I cut out the cymbals because the percussion players don't use them and also cut out the snare. So over all, this percussion part was doing what the main drums bass drum done but on a low tom and the main drums toms on three different toms.
1st tom - What one of the main drums toms does.
2nd tom - What one of the main drums other toms do.
3rd tom - What one of the main drums other toms do.
4th tom - What the main drums bass drum does.
PERCUSSION 2 (Chris Fehn):
Again I copied and pasted the drums for this part but cut out all the toms and the bass drum. I only had this Percussion part doing what Joey's snare does. Also I kept some of the cymbal parts. Even though the percussion players don't have cymbals. They some times hit the rim of a drum to make it sound a bit better, so that's what I did for this part.
RHYTHM GUITAR (Mick Thomson):
I got the tabs for what the rhythm guitar does from ultimateguitar.com and inputted it through the logic keyboard. This was probably the simplest out of the lot. It only took me a day to have the complete guitar finished.
I got my brother to help me in getting the guitar to sound like Mick's guitar but after that I inputted it all myself.
LEAD GUITAR (James Root):
I got the tabs for what lead guitar does from ultimateguitar.com and basically looked at the tabs and inputted it through the Logic Keyboard. This wasn't hard because since the rhythm guitar was all ready complete, it was just a case of copy the rhythm section and paste it to lead as well.
Because during the verses Mick and James do the sames thing.
For James sound I also got my brother to help me.
Originally this was meant to be my audio track but I didn't give my mate enough time to learn the solo so I said it was okay because I had already input lead guitar through the Logic Keyboard. So I took out the guitar solo in this song.
BASS GUITAR (Paul Gray):
It turned out that this was my audio track. I already learnt this way before coming to College so it took my about an hour to record it in.
I done it section by section. So the verse line first, then the chorus line and then the a few little variations and fills.
LEAD VOCALS (Corey Taylor):
I didn't have singing in this track. I found a website that make songs all on music notation. So they had Dead Memories all notated out on manuscript paper. With the vocals on piano.
So that's exactly what I did. I copied clicked in the whole vocal score onto Sybelius and (saved) exported it into a Midi file so it could play on Logic. So the vocals was actually a piano track.
I went through the song sorting out where each words needs to be and if I needed any repeats or volume changes.
I took out the backing vocals to this song because I feel I didn't need it. And plus they're aren't much backing vocals in this song.
BOTH D J'S (Sid Wilson and Craig Jones):
I just had the D J's in two parts of the song. The intro and the calm part to the song.
For the intro, I basically tried to do what they did live at the MTV stage. I just had different sounding Slipnot effects for about 20-30 seconds for the intro. This was all down through the Logic Keyboard too.
For the calm part I done exactly what they done. I had the piano doing the chords for one, and little high pitch notes for the other.
